Géologie du massif de la Saulire (Briançonnais, Vanoise)

Abstract : The studied area is in western Vanoise (internal edge of the colliery zone ) between the Meribel and Courchevel valleys. The stratigraphy is caracterized here by thick paleozoic and werfenian series (Westphalian D,Werfenian) : the siliceous series : upon them lays a calcareo-dolomitic cover (here only Anisian and Ladinian) : the carbonaceous series. - Lithostratigraphy : The siliceous series are composed of schists, sandstones and conglomerates. They are not much deformed and slightly metamorphic. The carbonaceous series are parted in 6 sequences, grouped in two sedimentary cycles. The first is equivalent to Anisian, and the second is completely holded in Ladinian. - The Sapey gneiss : They are augen gneiss and micaschists intercalated in the siliceous series. They look like a thrust sheet of antenamurian rocks, drifted during the saalian phase. - The alpine tectonics : They are characterized by a parting of the carbonaceous cover, followed by three folding phases : D& phases, recumbent folds with a WE axis, D2 phase, overturned folds with a NS axis and D3 phase, up right folds with a WE axis.
