Étude de l’observance de la prescription par le médecin généraliste d’une activité physique régulière pendant 6 mois, pour des patientes inactives de 50 à 60 ans du cabinet médical de Monein (64)

Abstract : Introduction: physical inactivity and sedentary lifestyle are becoming more prevalent in the population. This is all the more true as one advances in age and that one is female. The general practitioner now has the option of prescribing physical activity to his patients. The main objective was to evaluate the patient compliance about the prescription of moderate physical activity, prescribed by a general practitioner, for 6 months in women aged from 50 to 60. The secondary objective was to identify elements associated positively or negatively with adherence. Method: we contacted all women between 50 and 60 years old, followed at Monein's physicians' offices to recruit inactive patients according to the Ricci and Gagnon questionnaire. Those with a score ≤ 18 were offered to take part in the study. The volunteers were seen in consultation to make the prescription : 30 minutes of moderate exercise of their choice, 5 days a week. They were reviewed in consultation after 3 months and 6 months to calculate the new score on the Ricci and Gagnon questionnaire. Results: 166 women were contacted, of whom 111 were already active or very active, 3 refused to continue the call and 52 were inactive. Among them, 32 accepted to take part in the study. 7 women dropped out during the study. The data were assessed in 25 women. On average, we measured a significant improvement in the Ricci and Gagnon questionnaire (+10.44 points with p <0.001). 19 women became active while 6 remained inactive, giving a compliance rate of 59.4%. We did not identify any elements that could be positively or negatively associated with exercise compliance. Conclusion: the observed compliance rate is quite high, compared with the literature. This is probably related to the fact that unlike other similar studies (where follow-up is done by telephone interview), we planned a follow-up consultation for each patient at 3 and 6 months. The accompanying support and the resulting management are responsible for this good result. However, it is also what is responsible for the lack of power of our study by too few patients included. The other weakness of the study is the use of Ricci and Gagnon's questionnaire, which has not been validated (although very much used).
