Effet aigu d’un Extrait végétal riche en polyphénols (EVRP) sur la fonction endothéliale d’étudiants sains

Abstract : More and more students are looking for answers in order to improve their cognitive skills. Some polyphenols play a part in the preservation of optimal cognitive functions. One of the hypotheses of mechanism of involved action is the increase of the cerebral blood flow through the endothelial function. The objective was to estimate the acute effect of a plant extract rich in polyphenols (EVRP) on the endothelial function and on the cognitive functions of healthy students. It was a mono-centric study (Bordeaux University Hospital), in crossover, double blind and against placebo, realized from November, 2017 to May, 2018. We included 30 voluntary healthy students from 18 to 25 years old. The product in the study, the EVRP, was a mix of grape and wild blueberry extracts, rich and standardized in polyphenols. The endothelial function was estimated by the flow mediated dilatation (FMD). During every evaluation visit V1 and V2, the subjects had 2 measures of FMD, before and 3 hours after the ingestion of the EVRP or the placebo, as well as a realization of cognitive tests. On the 26 studied students, we did not get any significant difference between groups on the peak of FMD (at 60 second) (p=0,45). We found a significant difference between the 90th and the 120th second post-ischemia (t=2,128, p=0,04). For the moment, we have no results on the cognitive functions. In the condition of that study, the consumption of a dose of EVRP did not significantly improve the flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) of healthy students.
