Impact d’une formation pluridisciplinaire sur la prise en charge de l’addiction à l’alcool auprès de médecins généralistes, pharmaciens et infirmiers libéraux

Abstract : Introduction: alcohol consumption is the second cause of death in France. The support to people suffering from alcohol addiction by first resort professionnals remains difficult. The objective of the study was to assess the impact of a multidisciplinary training provided to general practitioners (GPs), community pharmacists (CPs) and district nurses on how to take care of alcohol use disorders in a territory distant from addiction care services. Methods: we realized a controlled intervention study. We offered to GPs, CPs and nurses of o rural territory a continuing education session about the management of alcohol use disorders. The participants constituted the Intervention group. Three declarative surveys were carried out : before education, one month later and three months later. We compared the results between Intervention and Control groups at each stage. Results: 24 GPs, 22 CPs and 61 nurses participated in the study. 6 G! Ps, 9 CPs ad 15 nurses attented the training. GPs were involved in alcohol use disorders and had good professional practices before the training. Intervention groups improved their pratices after the training, unlike Control groups. More craving cases were targeted by Intervention GPs, who were more to prescribe anti-craving drugs. Intervention CPs talked about alcohol in more situations and delivered more anti-craving drugs. Intervention nurses offered brief interventions in greater numbers to users at risk. Discussion: the education session improved professional practices but the number of patients taken in charge for alcohol addiction didn’t increase in three months.
