Connaissance de la rougeole, perception de la vaccination et couverture vaccinale chez les étudiants des Universités de Bordeaux et Poitiers durant l’épidémie de rougeole de 2018

Abstract : Introduction: measles is a preventable disease through vaccination. A measles outbreak started within the Bordeaux and Poitiers universities during the 2017-2018 winter. The aim of this work was to establish factors associated with complete immunization status and with the willingness to be vaccinated on campus if this was facilitated, their knowledge about measles and vaccination and their vaccination coverage. Method: an online survey of students attending Bordeaux and Poitiers universities was undertaken in March and April 2018. A score was created to evaluate knowledge and logistic regression analysis were undertaken to identify factors associated with complete immunization status and willingness to be vaccinated on campus. Results: students least likely to be fully vaccinated with MMR included males, over 30 years, students born outside France, with financial difficulties and students with a lower knowledge of measles. The students least likely to accept facilitated vaccination included women, students from Bordeaux, students outside healthcare studies and students who did not consider measles to be a serious condition. More than half the students had good measles knowledge (at least 5 good answers on 7). Among 3891 students, 55% had 2 MMR shots, 5% were not vaccinated and 15% did not know their immunization status. Discussion: encouraging the most vulnerable students to declare a doctor and improving knowledge of measles and its severity are key areas of action to improve immunization coverage on campuses because student immunization coverage is far from the 95% recommended by WHO.
