Abstract : Nowadays, it is still a challenge to identify if a pediatric head trauma is the result of an accident or a child abuse. Thanks to the development of new digital tools, studies about finite element models and their analysis have been developed and constitute a valuable tool to predict the type of fractures than can occur on an infant skull. Nevertheless, this method is still complex and require specialized softwares. In this experimental study, we created a 6-month-old pediatric head finite element model using CT scans. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a biofidelic finite element models construction and its analysis with free softwares. Then, it was possible to highlight the difficulties experienced in each step of modelling (segmentation, surface improvement and retopology) in order to find solutions to overcome them. Thus, we proposed a finite element model protocol. Once validated, it can be used to simulate cases and to compare them with clinical data of head traumas caused by child abuse.
