Formation initiale de l’étudiant sage-femme à la gestion du travail et de l’accouchement physiologique : enquête auprès des jeunes diplômés

Abstract : Context : The learning of the management of normal birth by midwifery students is most often carried out with women benefiting from epidural analgesia and maternities whose obstetrical practices evolve.
Object : To appreciate during the initial formation, the adequacy between theoretical and practical formation in the management of normal birth.
Method : We carried out a quantitative, prospective and multicenter observational study over a period of 3 months, between October and December 2017. We included all the midwives new graduates of 2017 from 35 schools in France. We created an online questionnaire with a clinical vignette and self-satisfaction scales. We then performed a statistical analysis of the results using Open-Epi epidemiological software.
Results : We found that 68.6% of midwives "feel" rather to know the physiological workflow and that the theoretical formation is "perfectly" adapted for only 5.8% of them. Moreover, the new graduates are "rather" satisfied with their clinical formation in the management of normal birth, but more than half of them describe a number of learning opportunities "not enough" as well as places of training "Rather not" adapted to the management of normal birth. Finally, with an average of 7 out of 10, it is noted that midwives generally feel that they are competent to manage the progress of a normal birth.
Conclusion : In view of the evolution of obstetric practices and learning opportunities that are rarely encountered in the birth room, the midwifery student combines different learning methods with his initial formation in order to be competent in the management of normal birth.
