Universitarisation de la médecine générale : à propos des thèses d'exercices

Abstract : Introduction: The development of research in general medicine became an essential point with the creation of the DES in general medicine in 2004. The valorization of studies and publications related to primary care becomes a necessity. Moreover, the academic work produced by the interns remains quite heterogeneous. The objective of this study was to analyze the content of general medical theses produced in Marseille between 2009 and 2016. Material and method: A longitudinal descriptive study was conducted. Any thesis in general medical practice defended at the Faculty of Marseille between 01/01/2009 and 31/12/2016 were included. From the reading of the abstracts or even the whole these, four variables were encoded: the speciality of the director of these, the affiliation or not to the disciplinary field of general medicine, the research themes through the international classification of primary care (CISP-2) ant the methodology used. Results: 1054 general medicine theses in Marseille were analysed with 92 military medical theses excluded. 962 theses were included in the study. Most of the theses were supervised by general practitioners (59.31%) and were related to the field of general medicine (74.53%). The most studied chapters of the CISP-2 were general (35.48%), social (9.93%), cardiovascular (8.77%) psychological (8.31%), pregnancy (6.61%), metabolic (6.67%) and respiratory (5.69%). The quantitative method was most often used (75.16 %). Conclusion: The concordance of general medical theses with the discipline is improving and the production of theses articles is developing. However, research themes would require a certain homogeteinisation and quantitative studies remain the majority. It would be interesting to conduct similar work in more than one UFR in a consistent manner and to compare these results while promoting the training of general practitioners in thesis management and the awareness of interns in primary care research.
