Chirurgie dentaire et missions humanitaires : exemple de Madagascar

Abstract : Oral health doesn’t seem to be a priority in developing countries, particularly in Africa, while it cannot be dissociated from the general health state. People in those countries do not have access to oral health and their governments do not have the means to suppress the weaknesses of their health system, because of the lack of investment in such projects, funding, or corruption. Faced with this difficult health situation, international aid has a role to play in improving the population’s oral health. This work presents an approach of the populations requiring humanitarian assistance. It develops the characteristics of dentistry in the humanitarian field and the various actors of international oral health aid. Then as an example, the case of Madagascar, the humanitarian associations present on the island and the type of provided assistance.
