Mise en place et évaluation d’une prise en charge cognitivo-comportementale basée sur le CBSM (cognitive behavioral stress management) pour les patients atteints de douleurs chroniques en lien avec le cancer ou son traitement

Abstract : CBSM is a learning technique for stress management combining a cognitive-behavioral approach with relaxation. It improves the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases. The studies carried out in the context of cancer treatment have shown its effectiveness. Cognitive-behavioral techniques and relaxation have also shown a benefit in the management of chronic pain. This document describes the implementation of the program at CHUGA with patients with chronic pain related to cancer, its evaluation, the difficulties encountered and the first results of the study. Since January 2017, 36 patients mainly women (90%) followed in oncology for cancers (all stages combined), have participated in the program. The attendance rate at the sessions was, 75%. The positive feedback from the participants motivated the continuation and evaluation of the CBSM program. As part of the research protocol, perceived stress (PSS14) was assessed as the primary endpoint; participation percentage, pain, anxiety, depression, and quality of life as secondary endpoints. From 01/09/2018 to 15/02/2019, the study was proposed to 28 patients. Twenty-four (86%) were include. Fifteen (56%) have already attended the first sessions with an attendance rate of 90%. No patient has completed all sessions to date. On a qualitative level, patients had positive feedback on their participation in this program. As the study is not completed yet, it is not possible to draw conclusions. Nevertheless, the patients’ attendance rate as well as their overall satisfaction are very encouraging.
