Les coins jeux : un outil d’apprentissage du vocabulaire au cycle 1

Abstract : Oral language is at the center of the learning process in cycle 1. It is the essential vector for the construction of knowledge and the establishment of oneself as a person. The acquisition of an accurate vocabulary by the pupils is one of the challenges of cycle 1. Learning the vocabulary is too often limited to a field of study and, as the pupils fail to remobilize the new words learnt when they are speaking, memorization is therefore incomplete. The main goals of the study is to show that manipulation of objects and implementation of symbolic games in the playing areas of the classroom are tools that allow a better memorization of the vocabulary by the pupils. The experimentation is based on a sequence which aims to learn the vocabulary of health to the pupils through the establishment of a new play area in the classroom named "doctor’s place". The sessions alternate objects manipulation, institutionalization and role playing. The different evaluations carried out have shown a constant progression of vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, the results tend to prove that the playing areas in the classroom and the implementation of symbolic games make it easier for pupils to switch from passive to active vocabulary, thanks to a better memorization work.
