Comparaison de la technique opératoire et des suites opératoires après freinectomie à la lame froide versus laser : une revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : Introduction: The frenectomy consists of cutting the fibers of an aberrant frenum. This surgical procedure is usually performed with a scalpel. Several authors have recently reported the interest of the laser for this indication. However, to date there is no consensus to choose one of these two surgical tools. This study aimed to compare the perioperative management of patients receiving a frenectomy with the conventional method (scalpel) and with laser. Material and methods: A systematic review of the literature has been carried out from two databases: PubMed and Scopus. Included articles had to compare the perioperative management of patients during frenectomies performed with conventional surgery against a laser. Results: Seven articles covering 289 patients were included. Four studies showed that pain and postoperative outcomes were significantly lower in patients treated by laser. Only one study stated that using laser significantly reduced the surgery duration. Discussion: The low number of eligible studies, the different lasers found in the cases and the subjective judgments criteria were the limits of the study. Conclusion: Further research with higher level of evidence are needed to establish the contribution of the laser and to provide a complete understanding and standardization of the technic.
