Qualité de la prise en charge des abcès superficiels par les médecins généralistes en région Bretagne, intérêt d’une formation

Abstract : Context : Superficial abscesses represent a regular reason for a general practitioner consultation, requiring a little practice for an optimal management. If their treatment is well protocolized, what is it in practice ? The objective of our study is to determine what is the practice of general practitioners in Brittany region concerning the management of superficial abscesses. Method : This is a quantitative prospective study concerning general practitioners in Brittany. We included 388 general practitioners and studied their management about superficial abscesses from an online questionnaire. Results : Among the 388 general practitioners who responded between the 15th of September and the 25th of november 2017, 140 (36,08%) prescribed an antibiotic, 195 (50,26%) practiced incision. We found the oldest physicians incised more (p<0,05) in agreement with the recommandations. Likewise, they refered patients less often to a specialist. On the other hand, antibiotics prescriptions were statistically the same in each of the different groups. Conclusion : This study shows too many antibiotics prescriptions and not enought superficial abscesses incision, delaying the effective management of soft tissue abscesses. General practitioners should be reassured about making incisions at medical office, and the protocols of superficial abscesses management should be recalled.
