Méthode de pose directe des dispositifs intra-utérins et systèmes intra-utérins hormonaux : efficacité sur la réduction de la douleur liée à l’insertion et tolérance à 6 mois, étude prospective observationnelle

Abstract : The aim of the study was to compare the pain experienced during IUD placement between a new insertional technique: the “direct method”, and the conventional insertional technique, and to observe complications over 6 months. 535 women were included between June 15 and December 15, 2016 in France. Women in the direct-method group reported less intense pain than women in the standard-method group (p<0.001). This result was confirmed by multivariate analysis. There was no difference regarding occurrence of complications, 6-month IUD presence rate, and 6-month IUD satisfaction rate. The direct method for IUD insertion appears less painful, without increasing the risk of complications. It could be preferable especially for women most at risk to experience severe pain: nulliparous women and women whit no previous vaginal delivery.
