Des contes et des jeux pour améliorer la compréhension de texte

Abstract : This study points at a project around traditional tales which help reducing gaps existing between students in terms of reading comprehension and writing abilities right from their arrival at preschool level. In order to do so, I used an experimental method: first tests were processed on 24 student in January then the project went on twice a week during 4 months. These tests reveal that student who had contacts with books from their early childhood generally get a better comprehension of the main theme wether on albums or regarding stories in general even if they had never seen or heard them before. Likewises, questionnaires and Stephane Bonnery’s researches show that for children who have been few in contact with books, "complex" album comprehension is often more difficult, specifically the "narrative" and double means of diverted tales. This project around traditional tales lead student to both face canonical narrative shemes and stereotyped characters that they will meet again in litterature. This project used the Pierre Peroz’s listening pedagogy, Roland Goigoux and Sylvie Cèbe’s Researches and Viviane Bouysse’ s research work on the game to learn. The hypothesis is that we may tend to reduce learning abilities inequalities due to student personal background at the meeting of these lines: working on traditional tales in a context of a collective project leading to a collective goal seem to help reducing initial student inequalities in terms of abilities to learn. This project has then provided student with tools, not only in terms of patrimonial, popular and academic culture but also with reading guides which will undeniably help with their reading comprehension. As a conclusion, we may relate that what student understand quickly thanks to their home relation to books from very early childhood appears to be understood quicker than expected by children who are not used to read or be read books.
