Recueil du ressenti des praticiens généralistes nouvellement formés vis-à-vis de l’enseignement facultaire du DES de médecine générale de Grenoble : une enquête qualitative par entretiens en focus group

Abstract : Introduction: After obtaining specialty status for family practice in 2004, a teaching program has been introduced, with different teaching tools. The objective was to analyse the feelings of former Grenoble general medicine residents who had recently completed the internship concerning the theoretical teaching received during their internship. Methods: Qualitative study carried out from February to April 2019, bringing together 25 generalists. Four focus groups were realised to obtain the data saturation, confirmed by 2 individual interviews. Retranscriptions were analysed separately before data's triangulation. Results: Teaching was judged to be of good quality despite an abrupt transition to the competency-based learning paradigm. The seminars were rewarding, the presence of non-general practitioners was appreciated. An in-depth of replacement and installation seminars, and a learning of practical gestures were hoped for. The exchange pratice goups, depending on animators and groups, allowed to develop useful qualities for the practice. The mentoring was relevant but needed to be improved regarding the poor tutor-tutored relationship. The written accounts of learning and the portfolio were poorly understood, making their achievement difficult and academic. Research support tools were appreciated but thesis directors were not many enough and often inexperienced. Conclusion: The theoretical training is generally appreciated but deserves improvements. Some have already been done by the general practice department with the reform of the residency. It might be interesting to repeat this study in a few years' time to evaluate the benefit of these changes.
