Étude de l'impact des écrans interactifs sur le langage oral en grande section de maternelle

Abstract : The frequency of use of interactive screens, made popular by their size and content, has increased. While the consequences of frequent use of screens in infants have been studied, we do not know the impact of interactive screens on the oral language of children in last year of nursery school.
Our investigation recruited 4 clinical cases of distinct socio-cultural levels by which we verified whether parent/child interaction during the use of interactive screens impacted the child's oral language. Next, we examined whether the level of maternal education influenced oral language in children with the same degree of interaction with their parents when using interactive screens. Language was assessed through different speech and language therapy assessments: EVALO 2-6, EDA, ELO and La chute dans la boue. A comparison of the responses to the questionnaires with the assessment tests was established.
The results did not prove the influence of parent-child interaction during the use of interactive screens on oral language. But the mother's level of education had an impact on the child's language, regardless of the parent/child interaction during screen use, particularly with regard to vocabulary. If our results objectified this, it would have been necessary to take into account certain criteria (content and screen time) that allowed us to discuss the results obtained and to set limits to them. The size of our sample prevented the generalization of the results obtained. If we have studied oral language in these 4 children, written language could then be studied.
