Apport de l'ostéopathie dans la prise en charge des dysfonctionnements de l'appareil manducateur

Abstract : Nowadays, it is a well-known fact that the temporo-mandibular disorders (TMD) are complex pathologies, subject to multiple factors that contribute to its etiology. The multifactorial nature of these structural, psychosocial and systemic dysfunctions makes diagnosis and treatment difficult. It seems appropriate that they should be taken over by a multidisciplinary strategy. The approach of this anatomical region could be practiced in the framework of a close collaboration between dental surgeons and osteopaths due to the relationships between cranio-mandibular and cranio-sacral systems. The diagnosis and treatments are different from one profession to another, but the therapeutic actions are complementary and synergistic. Often, therapeutic priorities and objectives are not known among practitioners, which limits the benefits to the patient. Knowing the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to osteopathic management of TMD would allow the dental surgeon to optimize some of his therapies. The main objective is to know the patient’s lesion pattern in order to assess the need for collaboration and, if necessary, to establish a chronological intervention strategy for each professional. For this the integration of simple postural tests during the odontological consultation and oral examination by the osteopath could prove useful. In order to facilitate communication within this collaboration, whose common objective is to improve patient conditions, all diagnostic and therapeutic data will be grouped in the form of a common interdisciplinary data sheet.
