Prise en charge de l'urgence odontologique : enquête nationale auprès des CSERD

Abstract : Despite major therapeutic advances, oral health still remains an important public health issue in France and many patients access dental care through emergency treatments. Autonomy in accessing care and adequacy between care needs and care offer are strong demands from patients. As a consequence, availability of emergency healthcare services appears essential as well as the guarantee of a good health care system. Currently in France, Dental Emergencies (DE) management mainly relies on dentists in private practice. However, some hospital-based dental services dependent on dental schools (CSERD) also provide DE care. This work aims to analyze the organization such services regarding DE management and to identify the difficulties related to the hospital management of these unscheduled treatments. The present study relied on a survey questionnaire sent to 20 hospital-based dental services. It highlighted that these structures face common problems in the organization of DE care which should be taken into consideration if hospital DE care came to be generalized. It also highlighted disparities concerning the existence and organization of after-hours dental care. Consequently, harmonization appeared desirable to give patients a clearer view of the DE care supply.
