Hypnothérapie et effet placebo dans la réduction de la douleur. Revue de la littérature

Abstract : Some substances, even protocols or methods, are called placebo, that mean they have a positive effect on pain reduction, without having any real action on the pathology. Moreover, a placebo effect can also be associated with any therapy in addition to real effectiveness. Hypnosis is sometimes considered a placebo, which does not promote its integration into medical practice. The objective of this work was to compare in the scientific literature, the effects of hypnotic’s suggestions with the placebo effect and to clarify their mechanism implemented in pain reductions. For that purpose, a research in PubMed and Scopus databases completed by a manual research has permitted to select 9 articles matching with the inclusion criteria. It appears that hypnotherapy and placebo effect are indeed two different process to regulate pain, which are not based on the same mechanism of action.
