La place du Pilates en prévention de la récidive de la lombalgie

Abstract : Low back pain (LBP) is a major problem in public health. To avoid recurrence, patient has to find an attractive way to continue rehabilitation. Pilates has similarities with rehabilitation exercises and can be a solution. The aim of this thesis is to discover whether or not Pilates can be an effective rehabilitation method in case of chronic LBP and in avoiding recurrence. Methods : a literature review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and systematic review was carried out. The key words used in various database were : Pilates AND “Low back pain” AND (physio* OR rehabilitation). The quality of each paper was assessed by PRISMA and PEDro scales. Results : 13 papers were completed. Pilates is effective on pain and disability if it compared to minimal intervention. Compared to others activities, both appeared to give similar benefits. A trend of a better effectiveness of Pilates appear in few papers. Discussion : Disparities are found between papers regarding exercises composing activities. More studies are needed to assess the link with prevention of recurrence for LBP.
