Évaluation des connaissances et des moyens mis en place par les parents pour prévenir la plagiocéphalie

Abstract : Positional plagiocephaly refers to a common cranial deformation affecting about 47% of infants. It is sometimes referred to as an epidemic because of its incidence. However, prevention can be insured through simple advices given to parents. Methods : a questionnaire was given to parents of babies to ask them about their knowledge on prevention recommendations, and whether these recommendations were implemented to prevent this deformation. Results : most parents received the information (90%), however they did not remember this information (28% of recommendations retained by parents). They did not have much implemented the recommendations (35% of recommendations implemented by parents). Discussion : these results show the difficulty of appropriating prevention information, but more importantly the implementation of that information on the parents behalf. In order to decrease the incidence of this disease, improvements need to be made in the education of parents on the importance of the implementation of the prevention advice given of plagiocephaly.
