Étude de la prévalence de l'état de stress post-traumatique chez les marins-pompiers du Bataillon de Marins-Pompiers de Marseille

Abstract : Aims. In France, only one research, achieved in 2007, have been carried out on the prevalence of firefighters’ PTSD at the fire brigade in Marseille (BMPM). It find a rate of 1.16%, like the general population. However, firefighters are at risk of PTSD because of potentially traumatic interventions. We aim at estimate the prevalence of PTSD in firefighters of the BMPM. Procedure. During six months, firefighters doing their medical periodic check-up at the Medical Service of the Unity of Plombières, have filled a self-questionnaire with PCLS. The diagnosis threshold of PTSD is a score PCLS ≥ 44. Results. Among 356 firefighters counting, 4.49% have a PTSD with a confidence interval of [2.34 ;6.65] at 95%. Factors associated are sustainable tiredness, negative repercussions on family, professional, social life and a feeling of a lack of institutional support. Traumatics events which are the most quoted are interventions with children, road accidents and cardiorespiratory arrest. Conclusion. The prevalence is most important than the study of 2007. These results approximate international data and corroborate that rescuers are at risk. To compare with international studies, new survey with PCL-5 would be recommended. Finally, a qualitative research could defined more precisely factors associated with the occurrence of PTSD.
