État des lieux des connaissances sur la contraception des femmes de 20 à 34 ans et sources d’information reçues

Abstract : BACKGROUND: in France, the rate of use of contraception is one of the highest in Europe but the number of abortions is stabilizing at a high level. It should be asked whether women have received the right information at the right time by the right person. The objective of this survey is to do an assessment of the knowledge level of the women aged 20 to 34 about contraception and to know what their sources of information have been. METHODS: a descriptive survey was conducted in Mars 2018 in Paris with women aged 20 to 34. They filled a questionnaire about their knowledge about their contraception and the emergency contraception and their sources of information (social, school, medical, numerical). RESULTS: 392 women have answered the questionnaire. Most of them used the contraceptive pill (66,1%), half of them had already used the morning after pill (49,7%), 7.78% had an abortion. 34.5% of the women taking the pill knew the time limit to forget the pill and the length of time during which a condom must be used after a woman has forgotten her pill more than 12 hours. 25% of the questioned women knew the time limit of the morning after pill. The women who were reminded the way of using their contraception method and the way to act in case they forget their pill better knew the time limit to take the morning after pill. (p=0.009). During the first prescription of contraception, 37.3% thought they were told about the different contraception methods and 33.6% about the emergency contraception. 53.9% declared that the person who renewed their contraception did not remind them how to use it and what to do in case they forget it. CONCLUSION: this study shows that women aged 20 to 34 have insufficient knowledge of contraception and that the quality of the consultations for prescription of contraception is bad. The late increase of the price of the contraception consultation is in this respect going in the right direction. However even if a good quality information can improve the patient knowledge, it is still not sufficient to generate behaviour changes.
