Prévention bucco-dentaire des femmes-enceintes : étude des pratiques professionnelles de 106 chirurgiens dentistes en Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

Abstract : OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of conducting the oral preventive examination specific to pregnant women. The secondary objectives were to analyse the possible brakes, to study the symptoms encountered in pregnant women and the professional practices carried out by dental surgeons (CD). MATERIAL AND METHOD: This was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional epidemiological study conducted by a semi-directional, anonymous questionnaire addressed to dental surgeons vialist of the Councils of the Order of CDs in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, from 26/09/18 to 12/02/19. RESULTS: Of the 106 CDs that responded, 95.3% took care of pregnant women. Of those who performed between 1 and 10 oral preventive examinations in the previous month, more than half performed at least 1 preventive examination with pregnant women. The most common symptomatology was gravidic gingivitis (99%). The most common care was scaling (97%) and gum care (91.1%), in the second quarter for 68.3% of practitioners. According to 91.1% of dental surgeons, patients were moderately or insufficiently informed about oral hygiene, 70.3% felt that they lacked knowledge about the real benefits of this examination, or declared apprehension about the acts performed during pregnancy. CONCLUSION: Dental surgeons appear to be involved in oral prevention in pregnant women. However, perinatal actors should be made aware of primary prevention in order to increase access to oral health care for pregnant women.
