Récupération améliorée après césarienne : évaluation des pratiques professionnelles à la maternité de la Clinique des Cèdres

Abstract : Objectives: Evaluate the implementation of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol after an elective cesarean section at Clinique des Cèdres in Echirolles and identify the postoperative complications. Methods: Adherence of Professional Practices to the ERAS protocol was evaluated. This descriptive, observational, single-centre, retrospective study was conducted between 1st December 2017 and 30th May 2018. Results: Regarding the main principles of ERAS, first out-of-bed activity and oral analgesic administration were compliant with the protocol at 81% and 85%, respectively. Urinary catheter withdrawal compliance rate was 84% if the patients returned to the ward from the operating room before 4 pm and 11% after 4pm. A successful venous catheter locking was reported in 35% of cases and early oral fluid and solid intakes in 30% of cases. The main complication observed was acute urine retention and involved 10% of the included patients; it was not clear whether this was ERAS induced. Unrecovered data percentage greater or equal to 20% concerned 42 out of 62 criteria, which is an indication of low traceability. Conclusion: Following this study, an awareness meeting for the maternity staff was conducted, the ERAS protocol was modified and a new study should be conducted to assess professional practices.
