Les pères et la démarche de soins palliatifs en médecine périnatale en cas de malformation fœtale : quel vécu de leur accompagnement ? Quels besoins spécifiques ? Une étude multicentrique

Abstract : Objective. The palliative approach in perinatal medicine has been booming for the past 15 years. The objective of this study was to describe fathers' experiences during palliative care process as part of a fetal malformation discovered antenatally. We also analyzed the requests and needs of fathers in order to offer the most appropriate support. Method. A quantitative descriptive multicenter retrospective study was conducted. The data were collected through an anonymous online questionnaire, the link to which was distributed to fathers who could potentially participate in our study. Results. Sixteen fathers participated in our study. The majority of them were satisfied with the support they received. Nevertheless, the main shortcomings reported were related to uncertainty about the child's pathology, the absence of a referent, the lack of experience of some caregivers in this type of situation and the support following the child's death. Conclusion. Fathers were generally satisfied with the support they received throughout the palliative care process for their child. However, there are still some areas for improvement, particularly regarding the inclusion of the father in decisions or support after the child's death, for example.
