Perception des médecins généralistes bas normand du passage de leurs patients diabétiques de type 2 à l'espace régional d'éducation thérapeutique (ERET)

Abstract : Needless to demonstrate the huge value and the efficiency of Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) and especially in Type 2 Diabetes’s management. General Practitioner (GP) recognize TPE’s relevance for their patients. Faced to the difficulty to run TPE by themselves in their medical office, health practitioners ask help to dedicated health networks who will take care of their patients. We wanted to evaluate what is the perception of GP when their patients come back from a period of following and learning in these health networks. A qualitative study was leaded, we managed semi-directed individual interviews over a diversified sample of general practitioners from Basse Normandie. These GP recommended their type 2 diabetic patients to the Therapeutic Education Regional Area (ERET). Most of GP perceive positively this health time spent in the ERET, wether for the benefit for their patients or in their practice. This recognition varies, it depends on the skills and the personal beliefs of GP in TPE impact. The majority also sees in the ERET an external support well appreciated in regard of the the weariness engendered by the TPE run by themself and alone in their medical office. They are waiting for the ERET to help their patients to integrate the importance of medicalization reduction in the management of diabetes. All doctors also hope that their patients become actors in their care. The emergence of TPE structures promotes an evolution in the doctor-patient relationship, and the role of the doctor. It makes in evidence the move from the paternalistic model of the sick doctor relationship to a more partnership model, where the patient acts directly on his care.
