Optimisation et développement de milieux de culture

Abstract : Due to the explosion in the number of new bacterial species discovered in our laboratory thanks to the culturomics technique, which consists in using a very large number of culture media and culture conditions to extend the repertoire of bacteria, bacterial culture has experienced a new boom in recent years. Indeed, following the discovery of molecular techniques, the culture was considered outdated by a large number of microbiologists. However, previous studies have since shown that molecular techniques and bacterial culture are complementary. The development of new culture media and new culture techniques is essential because it will optimize the growth of certain bacteria or isolate fastidious bacteria to be cultivated. For this reason, knowledge of the bacterium's natural environment and its nutritional needs appears fundamental because otherwise the bacteria will not be isolated and will remain in the category of "uncultivated" bacteria. In addition, it is also necessary to develop selective media in order to specifically isolate bacteria. Indeed, certain bacteria have a great importance in human health and in particular in the induction of the response to the treatment of certain diseases, in particular anti-cancer treatments. Rapid detection of these bacteria in the microbiota of patients receiving these treatments could save time in the management of their disease. In addition, the ability to culture anaerobic and aerobic bacteria in the same medium under aerobic conditions would also allow for faster results and treatment of patients in the event of infection.
