Prise en charge d'un patient présentant un dysfonctionnement temporo-mandibulaire dans le cadre d'un traitement d'orthopédie dento-faciale

Abstract : Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) is the leading cause of pain in the orofacial area. The prevalence of signs and symptoms can be as high as 68% in the population. We will see that orthodontics does not interfere with the multifactorial etiopathogenesis of TMD positively or negatively. However, the absence of a causal link between TMD and orthodontics does not exclude the orthodontist from respecting minimum objectives at the end of treatment, namely: wedging, centring, guiding. The postponement or suspension of an orthodontic treatment before the occurrence of a TMD should be considered, multidisciplinary collaboration is fundamental in this area. The diagnosis and a rigorous follow-up will have to be instituted. Complete information should be given and collected from the patient before undertaking any treatment. Especially towards patients at risk. The young hyperdivergent girl with slender condyles posteriorly oriented will require our full attention.
