Phénotypage d'une collection d'ignames (Dioscorea alata L.) et héritabilité au sens large de déterminants foliaires

Abstract : Yam (Dioscorea L.) is a tuber used as a staple food in many intertropical countries. Its rising growth and the yield’s stagnation are alarming whereas numerous varietal innovations are possible. The goal of this study is to characterize a collection of yams, mainly D. alata, and assess the varietal variability based on leaf traits. The measurement of the broad-sense heritability by the mean of mixed models show that a large part of the phenotypic variability is due to the genome. Some traits are differently correlated the one to the others whereas other traits show no correlations. Some varieties have very contrasted phenotypes that are could not be due to the site’s effects. This paper is a basement for the initiation of high throughput, move the selection’s efforts (GWAS, QTL screening, …) toward the most interesting traits, and improve the comprehension of drought tolerance in yams.
