Acceptabilité d'un dépistage systématique des violences interpersonnelles en médecine générale

Abstract : Background : Interpersonal violence is a public health problem. Faced with the many difficulties of identification, some are questioning the need for systematic screening. By virtue of its function, the general practitioner is one of the first interlocutors of the victims. Doctor’s principal brakein detecting violence is the fear of hurtingtheir patients. What is the feasibility of systematic screening for interpersonal violence in general practice? Method : This prospective quantitative studywas conducted in 6 general medicine practice in Reunion. 4 resident doctors interviewed 106 patients using a survey. Results : 56.6% of patients think that the general practitioner should systematically screen for interpersonal violence. 95.3% do not mind if their doctor asks them if they have been victims of violence. 53.77% reported having already experienced violence. 61.4% of them never talked about it to their doctor. 6 patients have never spoken about it to anyone. Cross-analysis revealed that the South and East patients (p <0.0001), the over 40s (p <0.0008), having children (p <0.04), being victims of psychological violence (p <0.04) and / or in the family sphere (p <0.04) were factors making routine screening more acceptable. Conclusion :This study shows that Reunion patients accept systematic screening for interpersonal violence. The fear of being offensive should no longer be a brake described by doctors.
