Enseigner la grammaire dans une perspective bilingue

Abstract : The use of students’ first language in the immersion classroom is often not encouraged. This research takes place in a second grade class in a French immersion school in Canada. The research’s purpose is to show how the students’ first language, which is English, can be used by the students to understand a grammatical concept in French: the possessive determiner. The students learned about the French possessive determiners through a small unit in grammar along with exercises. The results between the pre-test and the post-test show that the nine students’ scores improved. The students’ first language was used as a support in order for the students to understand how the possessive determiners work in French.
