Projet SOFIANE, analyse de filières alimentaires insulaires pour mettre en évidence leurs contraintes spécifiques et facteurs de succès

Abstract : The Atlantic Islands are territory with many constraints but also particular assets. The agriculture is an important sector of those territories as it keeps the landscape up but also maintains yearly activities on the territory. To maintain that sector, it is important to understand the food chain, which comes from the island agriculture. This thesis has goal to show the organisation of island food chain but also opportunity and constraint that they face. A case study has been led on 3 different food chains, the vegetable production on Batz, the cattle production on Belle-Ile and the wine production on Ré. First, we have shown that many different organisations exist between the actors of the food chain ; each is based on a specific product, which is made different from those produced on the continent. These products are key to maintain the whole production despite the additional cost due to the insularity. Then, we show that factors that influence the development of the island food chain are not just based on profitability but also on social relationship, organisation between the actors and, the juridical and administrative background. Today the wish of some actors to develop local food chain based on a yearly consumption on the island have affected the development of the territory. One of the major stake is to find a solution to fit this production in the logistical and consumption constraints.
