Supplémentations en fer, en acide folique et en vitamine D pendant la grossesse : l’observance des patientes et leur perception de l’information médicale

Abstract : Introduction: Since more than 20 years, there was many recommendations for iron, folic acid, and vitamin D supplements during pregnancy and periconceptional periods. Despite the recommendations, the deficiency rate remains high. The purpose of the study is to identify the different supplements prescribe during pregnancy reported by the patient, to appreciate the compliance and their perception of the medical information related to these prescriptions. Material and Method: To meet this objective, a quantitative study has been run around Marseille, from May 2018 to July 2018, using a questionnaire filled directly with 200 women in postpartum period service, at four different maternities levels. Results: Less than one in two women report receiving a prescription for acid folic and vitamin D supplementation ; and two-thirds of pregnant women report receiving iron during their pregnancy. In contrast, about 50% of the deficient women identified by the study revealed that they didn’t receive acid folic or vitamin D supplementation, and 25% concerning acid folic. A large proportion of women who have benefited from a supplementation prescription don’t know the purpose. In this study, based on patient reports, multiparity and CMU are the main parameters influencing poor compliance with supplementation. Conclusion: In view of the results, supplementation during pregnancy and peri-conceptional period are still insufficient. Public health measures could be applied through the introduction of nutrition classes from an early age. Simple questionnaires in waiting room before pregnancy consultations can be set up to detect women at risk of deficiencies. On a larger scale, it would be interesting to reproduce the model of supplementation of cereal products of the United States wich would make it possible to decrease the frequency of occurrence of anomalies of neural tube closures.
