Activités physiques adaptées en Polynésie française : description de l’évolution de l’indicateur « tour de taille/taille » chez les patients inclus dans la première session 2018 du réseau Maita’i Sport Santé à Tahiti

Abstract : Introduction: physical activity is a significant treatment option against cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. In French Polynesia, the prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus is a major public health problem with 70% overweight population. “Maita’i Sport Santé”, adapted physical activity system, was an answer to this worrying situation. The aim of this study is to describe the evolution of waist-to-height ratio, a strongly predictive indicator of cardiovascular risk and correlated with mortality, after three months in the system. Material and Methods: the primary outcome was to describe the modification of waist-to-height ratio between begin and end session. Secondary outcomes were the evolution of other anthropometric measures (weight, BMI, blood pressure), health felt and level of physical activity. Results: In this sample, the average of waist to height ratio decreases to 0,1 and the rate of cardiovascular mortality risk decreases to 14,3%. Health felt score seems to be improved. Conclusion: this study can’t conclude to a beneficial effect of the Adapted Physical Activities in Maita’i Sport Santé system because of actual bias. However, the results are consistent with current literature data on benefits of regular physical activity practice. Without being able to bring a conclusion, it allows to rather reflect a tendency and to highlight the axes that can be improved while revealing the positive sides of this system.
