Conscience du risque cardiovasculaire et comportement des coureurs à pied "masters" masculins

Abstract : Introduction: the incidence of cardiovascular events during physical activity is estimated at 6,5/100 000 participants in french population. « Masters » runners aged forty years-old and older are particularly exposed to myocardial infarction and sudden death. Cardiovascular prevention is based on avoidance of risk behaviors resumed in the « 10 règles d’or » established by « Club des cardiologues du Sport ». The aim of our study is to evaluate behaviors and awareness of cardiac events during their activity. Methods: questionnaires were delivered to « masters » participants in 11 races taking place from june 2017 to august 2018. Results: the average age of the 763 participants in the study was 52,6+/- 8.8 years. 24% believed they were completely protected. 13% have already felt a cardiac symptom but more than 40% did not report it to their physician. Only 28% cancel their training in case of extreme temperature. 26% assert do not run during feverish episod. 33% of the participants with high cardiovascular risk did not do exercise test for at least 5 years. Conclusion: an important work for athletes education about risk behaviors is necessary. Generalist physician must be principal actor of the athletes prevention as he regularly receives them in consultation for pre-participation screening.
