Hospitalisations programmées au Centre Hospitalier Sud Gironde : état des lieux ; enquête de pratique auprès des médecins généralistes et hospitaliers

Abstract : Introduction: scheduled hospitalization is more beneficial to the patient than admission via the emergency room, but many organizational barriers are reported in writing. The purpose of this study is to determine whether general practitioners and hospital doctors in the South Gironde territory have difficulty in scheduling hospitalization at the South Gironde Hospital Centre. Materials and Methods: this is a practice survey type study, carried out in January and February 2018, using a postal questionnaire sent to general practitioners and hospital doctors in the South Gironde region concerned by the hospitalisation scheduling process. Results: 120 general practitioners and 23 hospital staff were included. 102 questionnaires wereanalyzed. The response rate was 74,1% (75% for general practitioners, 69,5% for hospital staff). General practitioners have problems planning hospitalizations(7,1 % always have them, 61,9 % often)but not hospitalworkers (68,8 % rarely have them). The main obstacle for general practitioners and hospital doctors is the lack of hospital beds. Conclusion: general practitioners have difficulty scheduling hospitalizations, unlike hospital practitioners. Communication plays akey role in hospitalization planning. The stakeholders in the South Gironde region are very proactive on this subject and we hopeto providefor thishospital-level improvement solution, in the form of a secure workspace for the Sud Gironde Hospital site.
