Étude rétrospective, monocentrique, menée sur des patientes, suivies au centre François Baclesse, atteintes d’un cancer du sein métastatique : impact de la séquence de traitement par éribuline et/ou capécitabine sur la survie globale

Abstract : Patients followed for metastatic breast cancer are treated with anthracycline and adjuvant taxane chemotherapy and metastatic first line chemotherapy. Scientific evidence, validating the best therapeutic option beyond the 2nd line, is lacking. Capecitabine and eribulin are treatments approved as monotherapy by the EMEA. In France, it is recommended to start with capecitabine, given the results of a phase III study, showing no significant difference in overall survival (OS) between those two treatments. Results from another phase III study show a benefit in OS survival in favor of eribulin. We performed a retrospective, single-center study on 200 patients treated with Capecitabine and / or Eribulin for metastatic breast cancer between 2014 and 2016 and assessed OS and progression-free survival (PFS) according to the following therapeutic sequences: Capecitabine followed by eribulin (group 1), eribulin followed by capecitabine (group 2), capecitabine alone (group 3) and eribulin alone (group 4). The OS differs from 32.6, 23.4, 24 and 8.4 months in groups 1, 2, 3 and 4. The PFS under capecitabine and eribulin was 5.88 and 3.9 months, respectively. In contrast to literature data, the results of our study in terms of PFS favor capecitabine rather than eribulin therapy. This result can be explained by the fact that the choice in medical staff of capecitabine treatment before eribulin is retained for patients with a less aggressive tumor profile.
