Intérêts des thérapeutiques ortho-parodontales dans le traitement des migrations secondaires

Abstract : Pathological tooth migration is a consultation reason for a third of patients affected with periodontal disease. Their management must take into account the multifactorial nature of its etiologies which, therefore, requires a multidisciplinary approach. The response to aesthetic and functional problems encountered requires a combination of periodontal and orthodontic treatments. Through the analysis of the current literature, we intended to highlight the use of ortho-periodontal therapies in the management of these patients. We also analysed the clinical results obtained with regard to the impact of orthodontics on the reduced periodontal tissue and the regeneration of infra-bony defects. We will first define the phenomenon of pathological tooth migration, following with its etiologies and the diagnostic approaches. Then, we will discuss the therapeutic solutions by showing the interdependence between periodontics and orthodontics in the optimization of clinical results. We will finalise our work by presenting the ways to maintain results in the long term. Indeed, the success of ortho-periodontal treatments requires a good knowledge of the procedures and chronology to be respected. Close collaboration between the different practitioners as well as a rigorous cooperation of the patient remains essential.
