Évaluation des risques et des bénéfices à la pratique de la pole dance : enquête par un auto-questionnaire auprès des danseuses du sud-ouest de la France

Abstract : Introduction: Pole dance is a young sport. We wondered about the place that this sport can have in the recommendations of the sport health. Materials and methods: we conducted a declarative descriptive retrospective study of female pole dance practitioners in southwestern France. The main objective was to evaluate the riskq to the practice of this sport. The secondary objectives were to evaluate the potential benefits to this practice. Results: 133 questionnaires describing 133 traumatic pathologies were included. The prevalence was estimated at 55 %. 45 % of the lesions were located in the upper limbs, 31 % in the lower limbs and 25 % in the trunk. The technopathies found were hamstrings (11 %), shoulder tendinopathies (10 %) and spinal muscular injuries (9 %). 62 % of the attacks occured in an acute way, of which 10 % were due to fall or a bad reception. General practitioner are not the most consulted professionnals. Ultrasound was the most completed complementary examination. The sports judgment concerning 75 % of the lesions and was on average 3 months. Work stoppages accounted for 10 % of injuries and averaged 1,5 months. Potential benefits are assessed as important on the musculoskeletal system and very important for psycho-social interest. They were considered moderate for general physical conditions and congnitive function. Physical intensity was judged to be intense by Borg’s scale and moderate by emotional valence. Conclusion: the Self-Estimate Functional Assessment of Pain questionnaire will porvide more objective prospective results of the risks of pole dance. Each potential benefit can be a source of quantitative and qualitative work. The Heart Rate Variability will objectify the intensity of a training of pole dancing.
