Relation entre le nombre d’appels au centre de réception et de régulation des appels de Bordeaux et la position socio-économique des zones de résidence des patients

Abstract : Introduction: the number of calls to emergency medical services has been increasing for years. At the same time, precariousness also increases in France. The objective of this study was to find a correlation between the number of calls to Bordeaux’s emergency medical services and the socioeconomic position according to the patients' area of residence. Method: it was a retrospective, descriptive and monocentric study of calls to the emergency medical services in Bordeaux compared to the callers’ socioeconomic position, using a deprivation index - the European Deprivation Index (EDI) - calculated for each INSEE commune in Gironde from 2015’s population census data. Each call was linked to the caller’s municipality of residence EDI in Gironde. EDI 1 corresponded to the favoured population and EDI 5 to the disadvantaged population, the population divided into 5 EDI classes. Results: between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2018, 1,045,196 files were reviewed. The multivariate analysis found an increase in the number of calls for EDI 5 compared to EDI 1, with a Beta at 3.94 [IC95% = 3.46; 4.44]. There was no significant difference for EDI 2, 3 and 4 compared to EDI 1, with a Beta at 0.14 [95% CI = -0.52; 0.81] for EDI 2, a Beta at 0.39 [CI95% = -0.23; 1.02] for EDI 3 and a Beta at 0.36 [CI95% = -0.28; 1.00] for EDI 4. Conclusion: populations living in the most disadvantaged areas call more Bordeaux’s emergency medical services than populations living in the most favored areas.
