Devenir à 1 et 3 mois suivant un passage aux urgences au CHU de la Réunion pour chute des patients âgés de plus de 65 ans autonomes vivant à domicile

Abstract : Method : It is a prospective, bi-centric, observational study at the Reunion University Hospital. Patients who agreed to participate in the study were contacted at 1 month and 3 months. A telephone questionnaire was offered to them. Results : We had a cohort of 56 participants. The average age was 75.9 years with 53.4% women. 53.8% had at least one criterion of fragilty at the time of the fall. Polymedication was the predominant predisposing factor. 62.5% of patients had at least 1 immediate consequence from the fall. 3.9% of patients presented with another fall in the month following the visit to the emergency department. 13% declared having had another fall during the recall at 3 months. At 3 months, 19.6% presented with an increase in their dependence for instrumental activities and 21.7% for basal activities. 100% of patients had post-fall syndrome at 3 months. 51.2% of the patients presented with a depressive syndrome at 3 months of follow-up. Since visiting the emergency department, 52.2% said they had benefited from physiotherapy sessions and 17.4% had received vitamin D supplementation. Conclusion : The fall recurrence rate at 3 months is 13%. 1 in 5 elderly people will develop worsening dependence for both instrumental activities of daily living and basal activities, as well as worsening of depressive syndrome. Reunion's needs in terms of care for patients who fall will continue to increase. The creation of a network for the care of patients who fall could be an appropriate response to these growing needs.
