Les stéréotypes de genre dans le discours des enseignants du 1er degré

Abstract : We observe in society and in the Éducation nationale, an increasing willingness to train and raise awareness about gender equality, whether it be in the curriculum or in trainings given to students in the INSPE. Subconsciously, teachers play a key role through their teaching practice and professional actions. Therefore, I started to pay more attention about teachers' language. To do so, I tried to demonstrate the presence of gender stereotypes in teachers' speeches in very short sessions, and to pay attention to their origins. For this, I have conducted a project with two teachers from cycle 2 : a woman and a man. With the help of an observation grid and a transcription, I focused on two major criterias : the distribution of speech as well as the assessment of both behaviour and abilities made by teachers, depending on the pupils's gender. After my analysis, gender stereotypes do appear in teacher' speech, and it therefore seems that pupils are evaluated differently according to their gender. This indicates that teachers are influenced by their representations and their expectations. Analysing language suggests a subjective discernment and consequently it would be essential to link them with many settings such as teachers' and pupils' profile, when it comes to intepreting these results.
