Abstract : Objectives: This study aims at determining the prevalence of hypoglycemia for Small for Gestational Age (SGA) newborns that are currently classified as hypoglycemia risky, and also at distributing this prevalence of hypoglycemia as a function of birth weight percentile, in order to extract a centile to consider as a threshold. A secondary objective is to evaluate the riskiest hour of life for newborns to make a hypoglycemia. Methods: This study is a descriptive, transverse, and monocentric epidemiological study. It is a structured retrospective review of obstetrical files from Hôpital Couple Enfant, type III maternity of Grenoble, in France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, from November 2017 to January 2020. Results: We bring to light that 20% of SGA newborns classified as hypoglycemia risky at Grenoble Hôpital Couple Enfant present a hypoglycemia during the first 48 hours. It is riskier for newborns to have a hypoglycemia during the first capillary blood sugar level control, realized after 1 hour of life. We did not identify a birth weight percentile to consider as a threshold. Conclusion: Data concerning the hour of life at which it is the riskiest to have a hypoglycemia is in accordance with data found in the literature. Few newborns present a hypoglycemia during monitoring at maternity. This observation reinforces our hypothesis consisting in restricting the birth weight percentile threshold. One improvement perspective for this study is to increase the number of subject and harmonize the population characteristics in order to distribute the hypoglycemia prevalence as a function of the birth weight percentile and identify a threshold.
