Agénésie calleuse isolée, développement cognitif et qualité de vie : étude portant sur une population d’enfants ayant bénéficié d’un diagnostic prénatal entre 2013 et 2018 en Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Abstract : Isolated agenesis of corpus callosum (ACC) is a common brain malformation with a poor prognosis in only 20 % of cases. It is usually diagnosed during pregnancy and can be subject to a therapeutic abortion. Prenatal counseling is tricky because there are no prognostic factors. Our study aims at exploring quality of life and developmental disorders among children from 0 to 6 years old presenting with isolated ACC. We conducted a retrospective study on a population of children presenting with isolated ACC diagnosed in antenatal between 2013 and 2018 in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. We have listed 26 pregnancies; 19 resulted in a birth. Isolated ACC was a posteriori confirmed for 15 children. According to our results, isolated ACC seems to have little impact on children’s quality of life. Mild behavioral difficulties have sometimes been observed, with a negative impact on the parental quality of life. The gender of the child and the education level of their parents could influence the assessment of quality of life. Communication and social skills would only be impaired when isolated ACC causes language impairment. In this case, speech therapy is important. It is effective to compensate for the disorders and improve the quality of life.
