Effets de la méthode Semantic Features Analysis (SFA) sur l’anomie dans une tâche de dénomination chez une patiente présentant une maladie d’Alzheimer au stade modérément sévère : étude de cas

Abstract : Language disorders in Alzheimer's disease and especially anomia are frequently described in the literature. These difficulties sometimes manifest themselves in the initial stage of the disease, progressively hindering individuals' verbal communication. However, the tools targeted to work on the lack of the word in this neurodegenerative pathology and made available to speech therapists are currently limited. Semantic Features Analysis (SFA) is a method which consists in analysing the semantic features of a target item using a pre-filled matrix, with the aim of activating the semantic networks. It has been shown to be of most interest for the treatment of anomia in post-stroke and head injury patients. In the context of this study, a patient with moderately severe Alzheimer's disease was treated with a Semantic Features Analysis (SFA) therapy during 17 sessions in order to evaluate the effects of SFA in anomia in a naming task. The patient's naming performance was then evaluated pre- and post-therapy, as well as one month after cessation of therapy. The results are encouraging and show an improvement in the naming of the items selected and worked on, but also a generalization of the naming to untreated items. These observations are certainly limited due to the lack of representativeness of the sample on which the method could be proposed but could lead the way in current speech and language therapy practice, provided that larger studies can be carried out.
