Freins et leviers au développement des céréales « mineures » via les semences paysannes en réseau dans le Grand Ouest

Abstract : Genetic and species-level diversity maximization is a cru cial stake of the agro-ecological transition. Alternative Agri-Food Systems flourish to acheive this goal. The RCM project is an action-based and multi-actor research project aiming at enhancing minor cereals production via farmers seeds networks. This study uses the innovation theoretical framework to describe the trajectories of theses cereals, as well as on-going initiatives to restore them in the agricultural landscape of North Western France. We find that the industrialization process as well as the creation of a formal seed system amplified the marginalization of minor cereals. Yet they were already looked down uppon due to the social status of those who were eating them. However, the quality and proximity turn happening in consuming trends offers opportunity for their rehabilitation. We observed four types of transitions. 1. Traditional actors of the regime use standard strategies of investment and marketing. 2. Producers regroup at the regional and participate in the construction of shared governance schemes. 3. Margin actors circumvent the traditional circuit and create a territorial network. 4 The local farmers seeds network is a driving force of this network and it questions the relevance of seed marchandization, as well as a top-down model of knowledge production. To foster this innovation we advise for the maximization of network members participation, the local anchoring in territorial structures and alliances with other regional networks such as organic grain producers.
