Connaissances des professionnels de maternité sur le dépistage des contextes à risque de maltraitance infantile

Abstract : Child abuse is a serious and underrated public health issue. Maternity ward professionnals are essential players in its prevention because they are in front line for the screening of child abuse risk contexts. With a cross-sectional observational multicenter study, we assessed the knowledge of pediatricians, midwifes, gynaecologist-obstetricians, nursing assistants and childcare assistents working in three maternity wards in Calvados about the screening of child abuse risk contexts. Even if their knowledge of this subject is broadly good, they are underestimating child abuse and they don’t know children’s risk factors and the screening tools. Their initial and continuous trainings are insufficient and unequal. It is a priority to offer all of these professionnals the trainings and the tools allowing them to exercise their essential function in sreening and prevention of child abuse.
