Entre rétroactions pédagogiques, évaluations formatives et certificatives : quelle est la pratique effective des MSU de Normandie occidentale accueillant internes de médecine générale en stages ambulatoires ?

Abstract : While transiting to a constructivist medical education and a leaner-centered paradigm concentrating on primary care clinical competence, it seems there is little improvement and numerous methods in clinician teacher's practice. With an increasing public focus on doctor's performance, interacting and assessment tools are being developed in order to help in this challenging task. This study's purpose was to define educational feedback and assessment methods used by clinician teachers on residents under their responsability. A qualitative analysis of data was carried out. The data was collected from interviewing 14 first and second level general medecine resident clinician teachers in Southern Normandy. Results show similar educational feedback methods but with broad content. Thus, no formative assessment was performed as such and although a large majority of clinician teachers agreed with self-assessment none of them have put it in pratice. Using the same certification grid, variable summative finale examination methods are used. Finally, this study underlines uncertain boundries between educational feeback and formative assessment, underuse of assessment tools because of their complexity or of unawareness. Nevertheless, clinician teachers show interest in medical education and in good feeback to students. The next step should be the development of student's performance reliable measurements considering clinician teacher's issues to improve actual methods.
